Thaikhun

Sector: Hospitality
Details: Thai street food
Location: Metrocentre, Newcastle

Earlier this year Thaikhun, the casual dining restaurant chain from the owners of Chaophraya Thai Restaurant Group, opened a site at the intu Metrocentre in Gateshead. The 4,500 sq.ft. site is the group’s first venture in the North East. Thaikhun translates as ‘your Thailand’ and the underlying theme of the restaurant’s décor intends to remind past visitors of their visit as well as entice future holiday makers. Thaikhun’s menu is inspired by street food sellers in Thailand and includes dishes such as Thai salads and stir-fry as well as a range of curries, rice and noodles.

"Working with such a passionate restaurant brand is always a pleasure. Thaikhun invest a lot of time and effort to ensure that the food and experience it provides is authentic and a real Thai experience. The group also has a strong pipeline of openings lined up for the coming years and we can’t wait to see how the restaurant chain expands across the country."

Thai heaven in the heart of a British city

The interior of Thaikhun is heavily inspired by Bangkok’s street culture. It’s Thai heaven in the heart of a British city with a bright, bustling and contrasting interior infused with rich and authentic elements with furniture. There’s vintage style and bespoke rusty finishes to accentuate the raw textures and bright colour schemes. Key features include caged lamps, oversized spun pendants and bird cage pendants in brushed steel. Chefs prepare each dish with fresh and healthy ingredients, packed full of flavour in an open style kitchen.

Dealing with various cooking styles

With the focal point of the restaurant being the open style kitchen our job was to ensure the restaurant is smoke, grease and odour free at all times. With this in mind, we installed our high-efficiency Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) to deal with the various cooking techniques used by chefs at Thaikhun. From boiling noodles to making stir-fry, the ESP system is the most effective and environmentally friendly solution to harmful kitchen emissions. The ESP removes smoke, grease and dirt particles from the air by applying a high voltage electrostatic charge on them, giving them a negative charge. This causes them to stick to the positively charged collection tube, leaving Thaikhun with a fresh and comfortable kitchen and restaurant environment.
