Nutshell

Sector: Hospitality
Details: Iranian Cusine
Location: Charing Cross, London

If you are tired of the usual kebabs and want to try an authentic Iranian dish in London, visit Nutshell in Covent Garden. Husband and wife team Mohammad Paknejad and Marwa Alkhalaf first teamed up with ex-Noma chef Leonardo Pereira, popping up in Brick Lane last year. Now they’ve brought in a new Head Chef, Jeremy Borrow, to execute their vision of traditional Iranian recipes with a modern twist.

The new Theatreland restaurant is split over two floors and can accommodate 80 diners. The colour palette is reminiscent of a pistachio orchard, which served as inspiration for the restaurants’ name, featuring tones of green and pink contrasted by brass fixtures and surfaces of light marble and dark timber wood.

"It is really good to see a modern Iranian restaurant open in central London, something that is unique to what is on offer on St. Martins Lane. Nutshell is in a prime location with plenty of footfall, a great site for its first opening. It’s been a pleasure to work with the owners and team at Nutshell, they have a real passion for what they do and it shows throughout the restaurant."

Iranian Cuisine in Covent Garden

The menu takes inspiration from all the regional cuisines in Iran. Choices will include sharing plates and signature dishes adapted through the seasons, with breads and vegetables featuring heavily. Many dishes are developed using brining, pickling, drying and fermentation methods, a staple in homes across Iran.

We had the pleasure of working on such a beautiful site in a prime location in London. With any restaurant we fit out, our priority is the client. Having a cool and fresh environment is essential for a happy workforce and of course customers. That is why we installed a Canopy Containment Air (CCA) hood which spans over 5 metres. This is one of the most sophisticated kitchen extraction systems on the market today.
