Jamie's Italian - Portsmouth
“As it took a full two weeks to install the acoustic ceiling in the restaurant space, the actual project time for fit out was only 9 weeks. The client wanted to reflect the naval and dockyard theme of Portsmouth so some clever integration and construction of our ductwork and equipment was required to fulfil this desire ”
From concept to completion, this was a challenging project to say the least.

This is our fifteenth project for Jamie Oliver and his biggest Jamie's Italian to date. Located in Gunwharf Quays in the heart of historic Portsmouth, this site presented a challenge in many ways. Portsmouth is famous for its maritime tradition, historic dockyards and naval presence, so it was only natural that the design concept should reflect this abundant industrial heritage. For us, this involved a complex exposed ductwork system running throughout the dining area and forming an integral part of the restaurant’s design. |
Due to the close proximity of surrounding hotels and residential apartments, odour and noise control was of the utmost priority. To ensure that the discharge was sufficiently quiet and odour-free, we installed state-of-the-art Electrostatic Precipitation (ESP) and Ultra-Violet filtration, plus an acoustic ceiling in the restaurant space. These products combine to eliminate grease, smoke and odour from kitchen emissions, and prevent noise from spreading into the local amenity. |
In the kitchen itself, we provided both extract and supply air by installing CCA-S canopies: fresh, cool air is distributed across the kitchen via the perforated front grill, whilst contaminated cooking fumes and convective heat are efficiently extracted from the work environment. And all within a strict eleven week time frame. As usual, we finished on-time and in-budget, with everything working how it should. |
