Easter weekend 2016
Searching high and low for Easter eggs is something that I’m just too old for now – even though my mum does have a Dairy Milk Buttons Easter egg waiting to be opened on Sunday for me. The best part of this weekend is food, and lots of it. If you’re like me and not a domestic goddess, the best thing to do is to head out and save yourself a lot of stress. Below I’ve put together a list of places I would like to go this Easter weekend:
Whyte and Brown, what came first the chicken or the egg? Ah that doesn’t matter. The restaurant is the first of its kind to celebrate the delicious diversity of free-range chicken and eggs as well as craft beers. The dishes on the menu are quirky and definitely offer something that hasn’t been seen before. Chicken & pork scotch egg, mustard & caper mayo anyone?
If you’re really keen to get away from the traditional Easter breakfast, then head to Dishoom. With four restaurants dotted around London, this Bombay brasserie is the place to go. I would recommend the Akuri for breakfast. This pillowy mound of eggs never fails to disappoint. Vibrant yellow eggs are scrambled and laced with chopped onion, tomato and green chilli and served with two plump, toasted buns on the side. To wash it down, it would be rude not to order the Dishoom chai.
For something more traditional I would suggest Hawksmoor Seven Dials. It serves up a mean Sunday lunch and if you adore beef, then this is the perfect place to head to this weekend. The beef is full of flavour, cooked medium rare and is accompanied by a massive fist-size Yorkshire pudding, iron-rich greens, carrots, half roasted head of garlic and sweet roasted shallots. You’ll be needing an afternoon nap after a meal here.
Easter is also the time for drinking, and what better way is there to have some after work drinks on Thursday to start the weekend as you mean to go on. A place I have recently visited and would highly recommend is Drake and Morgan, King’s Cross. Down the emerald green staircase from the main room sits Drake and Morgan’s destination bar, busy with leather booths, serving house cocktails, and encouraging good times with quirky sharing cocktails.
